The Portman Group updates its guidance on alcohol sampling

The Portman Group (the Drinks industry watchdog) has updated its guidance regarding the provision of alcohol samples. The changes are directed at drink-driving prevention, specifically sampling practices directed at drivers or creating a direct link between alcohol consumption and driving. 

The main changes are as follows:

• On site consumption brand sampling should be conducted within the premises, rather than outdoors or in the carpark; and
• When offering sampling outdoors or in carparks, samples are recommended to be provided in sealed containers.
